Sitting in front of the television may be a relaxing way to pass an evening, but spending too much time in front of the tube may take years off your life.
There is no running away from the fact that in todays times majority of us lead sedentary lifestyles. Sitting is now a new risk factor for development of various diseases. It can also take years of our life span. Majority of people regard sitting as normal. We sit on way to work. We sit in front of the desk, we sit during lunch, we sit when we go home and when we watch tv. We sit when using out tablets and smartphones. 30 minutes to an hour of exercise a day my not be enough to counteract the extended period of sitting .
The human body was designed to move. We actually sit more than we sleep. Various changes take place in the body when we sit. We look at possible solutions as well. The long term effects of sitting can be compared with smoking. It can affect various organs, musculo skeletal systems, and there is an increase chance of mortality associated with increase in sitting. Prolonged sitting can be become the number cause of chronic diseases.
Extended periods of sitting is also associated with increased risk of cancer and strokes
