Finishing Grade 12 with Maximum Distinctions

Faizal chats to Ntokozo Hlongwane about his road to success and his latest book aimed at matriculants called “How to finish Grade 12 with Maximum Distinctions.  Ntokozo is now a motivational speaker inspiring youth all over South Africa. Ntokozo speaks to Faizal about his journey failing Grade 8 and making conscious decisions to change after he was given an ultimatum by his mother.

Ntokozo Hlongwane (24) was born in Ladysmith at Ezakheni Township Section E. He attended Sesikhona Senior Primary School and completed his High School career at Sakhelwe High School in 2008. Coincidently, Ntokozo failed Grade 8 and was given an ultimatum by his mom, who was an ordinary machinist earning R250 a week, that if he did not ‘pull up his socks’ his beloved mom would no longer support his career. Mesmerised, Ntokozo propelled with ambitious strides to achieve distinctions year in an year out. Surprisingly, he completed Grade 12 and obtained five distinctions and two B’s. He was then admitted as a Law student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College).

In 2012 He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Law (LLB) degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College). His passion for youth empowerment propelled him to begin speaking motivationally to youth, in particular, the Grade 11 and 12 learners around uThukela District area in Ladysmith. As such, he is an acclaimed author of the books “How to Finish Grade 12 with Maximum Distinctions” – published in 2012 initially by Sound Mind Publishers and now published by His own company. Whereas he is currently completing his second book, “Youth and Success” for tertiary candidates and the third book, namely “Think, Act and Produce Big.” Beyond all this, Ntokozo is an exceptional motivational speaker.

Ntokozo is also the Founder and Managing Director of Ikusas’elihle Youth Coaching and Leadership Development (Pty) Ltd .

Ntokozo Hlongwane has studied and travelled around the world to different countries including China, where he obtained an International Certificate in Financial Openness and Financial Risk Control For Developing Countries (Shanghai Education and Training Centre of Commerce), International Certificate in: Combating Desertification For African English Speaking Countries (International Centre For Bamboo and Rattan). Effectively Ntokozo represented the South African Government 2 years in succession 2013 and 2014.

Ntokozo is known for saying that his purpose in life is to equip, encourage, empower and inspire young people to break their limited thinking and become leaders in their respective realm.
